i2D’s Quality Management System Certified

Amid the constant bad news surrounding the coronavirus, it is time for some good news! Almost four years ago, the adventure to build the company in2Dredging Pty Ltd (i2D) began. In the interim years, we have gone from being effectively a sole trader to a real company with Quality and Health Safety & Environment management systems in place for i2D consultants to use, which ensure safe operations as well as the quality of our services and tools.

By the end of 2018, i2D managed to meet the qualification terms of the major miner, Rio Tinto. Thus, eighteen months ago our Health, Safety & Environment and our Quality management systems were already at an acceptable level.  Now we have taken the next step and have had our Quality Management System (QMS) certified to ISO 9001, the internationally recognised standard of excellence.

i2D’s Quality Management System

As an independent international dredging consultancy our QMS ensures that our services meet the highest quality standards. As we all work in the cloud, we are able to work in accordance to our systems from anywhere in the world. Deliverables are easily shared and systematically peer reviewed. Our QMS’s effectiveness and efficiency suites our company size, as well as our strategy of minimising overhead costs and providing cost-effective services. Our system enables us to work with a team of professionals in several time zones, to access internationally recognised subject matter experts and to ensure timely delivery.

i2D Tools

i2D’s off-the-shelf toolbox has been developed in accordance with our QMS. i2D pre-invested in these tools, so that we can now deliver estimating, engineering and monitoring results quickly and reliably, by only reviewing input and output data. This allows us to support companies to deliver projects ahead of schedule and under budget.

Development Process

As early as 2017, a soft start was made to formalise our work processes. Our committed and versatile business administrator, Grace Dennis, now has first-hand experience developing a QMS. She was able to independently create a system whilst carefully listening to our consultants, observing our work practices and challenging the status quo.

By the end of 2019, a robust and effective system was in place, which luckily also had Grace’s approval. It was no surprise that, thanks to Grace’s commitment and keen eye for detail, we achieved certification after the external audit in a very short period of time. Only one minor addition had to be made to meet the requirements of the ISO 9001:2015 standard.
