Position available: Senior Dredging Engineer

i2D’s handpicked team of multi-disciplinary consultants help develop value-added tools and services. They provide project management services around the clock and strive to propose cost-effective solutions for a niche dredging market. Our consultants rely on inhouse of-the-shelf tools, since research, development and innovation form part of i2D’s foundations.
We are now looking to welcome an experienced Senior Dredging Engineer to support our team of consultants from our Perth based office.
The challenges:
- Reporting precisely, concisely and clearly
- Submitting deliverables on time
- Estimating reliable production rates for dredging related activities to ensure clients’ budgets and schedules can be met
- Monitoring dredging operations to identify any deficiencies or opportunities
- Developing tools to assist our consultants with delivering results efficiently and reliably
- Preparing tender documents with sufficient definition to avoid delays and claims
- Identifying hazards, rating risks and developing safeguards to ensure the safety of people and equipment at all times
- Preparing proposals to win interesting and sustainable work
- Supervising work sites to ensure progress and compliancy, as well as to administer contracts
- Presenting results in a logical and coherent manner
- Being self-assured so that the client is confident in your skills and experience
Accountabilities & responsibilities:
- Ensure a safe working environment during all operations and tasks by supporting applicable HSE policies, procedures and relevant legislative requirements
- Take personal responsibility for, and demonstrate personal behaviour that upholds i2D’s values
- Constructively contribute to the effectiveness of dredging activities by using your technical knowledge in your area of expertise
- Undertake various consultancy tasks, including:
- maintaining effective communication;
- providing engineering services for dredging works;
- estimating dredge production rates;
- processing, analysing and visualising data;
- contributing to procurement activities;
- developing tools and researching literature;
- ensuring policies and procedures are adhered to;
- establishing long term relations with team members and clients; and
- assisting in planning and scheduling;
- Keep your technical knowledge up to date and apply new knowledge to projects; and
- Assist management and the workforce to meet projects’ stated objectives.
About you:
- Hold a Bachelor degree, or higher, in Civil or Mechanical Engineering, or similar.
- Perth based, willing to travel and able to work in remote locations
- At least five-years’ experience in marine construction and working offshore, ideally in the dredging industry
- Previous experience working on the contractor’s side is preferred
- Demonstrated experience in the use of OHS, Environmental and Quality systems
- Strong communication skills and able to interface with people at all levels, such as management teams, dredge crews and construction workforces
- Proficient in English, with other languages being an asset
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to uphold i2D’s company values
- Willingness to accommodate client needs and working hours
- Ability to work independently, under pressure and able to deal with unexpected situations
- Advanced computer skills, including a proficiency in the use of a programming language, preferably Python
- Some experience in estimating and managing projects
- Self-motivated
- Strong commitment to delivering high-quality results and deliverables
- Have both commercial and analytical acumen
- In good physical condition so as to be able to pass medicals required by clients
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to develop and implement innovative solutions
