Are you ready to upgrade your estimating skills and gain realistic productivity expectations when working with pumps and pipelines? in2Dredging (i2D) invites passionate dredging and mining professionals to our Pumps ‘n Pipeline (PnP) Masterclass. This intensive, compact yet powerful course is designed to sharpen your understanding of hydraulic transport systems and the intricacies of pumping soil-like mixtures.
Why Hydraulic Transport Matters
Hydraulic transport plays a central role in dredging and mining operations. It enables the economical movement of large volumes of soil, slurry and other materials through pipelines using pumps. However, the process requires some knowledge to understand how it works.
The interaction between pumps, pipelines and transported mixtures’ physical properties can drastically affect flow behaviour, energy consumption and overall productivity. Therefore, understanding how pressure losses, flow regimes, pipeline configurations and soil parameters influence the system is essential. This knowledge is crucial for anyone looking to design or troubleshoot hydraulic transport operations effectively.
What the PnP Masterclass Offers
This Pumps ‘n Pipeline Masterclass demystifies the principles and performance boundaries of hydraulic transport. It equips you with the knowledge to design and operate efficient and reliable systems. You will gain a deeper appreciation of the physics involved. You will also learn to recognise key risks such as pump cavitation, excessive wear and energy inefficiency and how to mitigate them through design and operational strategies.
Over two focused sessions, the course covers:
- Pump and engine characteristics, design constraints and operational behaviour
- Pipeline flow regimes, pressure losses and key physical properties
- Soil mixture dynamics, including densities, yield stress, particle size and risk factors
- Suction and discharge production given a pump
- Using PnP software – from inputting data to interpreting results and finding practical solutions
Whether you are a seasoned engineer or relatively new to hydraulic transport, this course will help you understand which parameters truly drive system productivity and how to estimate them accurately.
