in2Dredging (i2D) is pleased to launch the updated Pumps 'n Pipeline (PnP) Masterclass, a 6‑hour training programme tailored for dredging and mining professionals seeking to deepen their understanding of hydraulic transport and produce more accurate, defensible production estimates.

Develop the capability to estimate suction and discharge production accurately, reliably and with confidence.

A Practical and Comprehensive Learning Experience

The masterclass distils years of i2D’s global project experience, academic insight and extensive modelling into a clear, accessible training format. Participants gain a solid understanding of how hydraulic transport systems behave in practice, linking engine and pump performance with mixture behaviour, pipeline resistance and system limitations.

The course helps students build an intuitive understanding of how flow, head, power and operating points interact, forming the foundation of productivity in hydraulic transport systems.

What the Masterclass Covers

The programme provides an applied, practical overview of key the key elements influencing hydraulic transport, including:

  • Pump types and behaviour—how engine characteristics, pump curves, cavitation and efficiency influence production and sustainability.
  • Pipeline performance—including flow regimes, pressure losses, critical velocities and the practical implications of pipeline layout and material properties.
  • Soil-like mixtures—how particle size, density, viscosity and clay or non-Newtonian behaviour affect mixture dynamics, energy use and achievable suction and discharge rates.
  • System productivity limits—how operating points shift with changing soil, flow or pipeline resistance, and how to interpret these changes when estimating production and finding practical operating points.
  • Using the PnP tool—how to collate data, input parameters, interpret diagrams and critically review results to build reliable and defensible estimates.

For full details, refer to our Pumps 'n Pipeline Masterclass Brochure.

Delivered by an Industry Expert

The course is taught by Simon Burgmans, i2D’s founder and the developer of PnP. Simon combines engineering fundamentals with extensive onsite experience, practical examples and case studies to help participants confidently apply what they learn to real project scenarios.

Whether you work in estimating, project engineering or operations — or whether you are new to hydraulic transport or already experienced but seeking deeper technical insight — this masterclass strengthens your understanding of pump, pipeline and mixture behaviour. It improves the quality and credibility of your production estimates, reduces planning uncertainty and equips you to make better, more informed decisions.
